To remain on the cutting edge of issues, legislation,
applications, and innovations in the field, the 9,000-member Section of Dispute
Resolution stays in close touch with its members and the
national ADR movement. The Section works to adapt current legal
procedures to accommodate court annexed and court directed dispute
resolution processes and develop new approaches for dispute
resolution. It helps develop and implement problem solving models
and experiments in local, state, and national programs, and it
provides local delivery of innovative training programs.
Section committees let members network with leaders in the
field, learn about the best practices from other areas, have input
on policy issues, and participate in public service projects. Some
Section committees focus on using ADR in specialized areas of
practice. One committee helps members integrate mediation,
arbitration, and other neutral means of resolving disputes into
their existing practices.
Members receive Dispute Resolution Magazine four times a
year and the newsletter Just Resolutions. The ADR listserve
is an open list that facilitates dialog and promotes understanding
and information sharing. Books and articles complement the
periodicals.
The Section Spring Conference is now one of the largest of ABA
Section meetings. The Section organizes an ADR track for ABA Annual
Meetings, coordinating the ADR offerings of all ABA sections. It
offers CLE programming throughout the year, including an annual
symposium and the annual Spring Conference.
Dispute Resolution contributes to the formation of policy,
working with the National Conference of Commissioners on Uniform
State Laws. It issues ADR policy statements and ethical advisories
and assists in developing ABA policy as it relates to ADR. For more

Dispute Resolution of the American Bar Association, please visit www.abanet.org/dispute/join.html.
