The Supreme Court ruling in this Second Amendment case was one of the most closely watched of the term. It recognized that the right of individuals to possess guns for self defense is fully binding on state and local levels and not just the federal level.
The decision did not, however, explicitly strike down the Chicago laws in question in this latest case. Instead, the Supreme Court ordered a federal appeals court to reconsider its earlier ruling upholding the Chicago gun ban. Additionally, there is nothing in the ruling that indicates that state and municipal governments cannot enact other restrictions and regulations to gun ownership. This raises the question of the true meaning of the impact of this latest Supreme Court decision.
We have assembled a panel of key experts from both sides of the Second Amendment argument to explore this ruling.
